    96 gsx bad starter?

Hey guys, so today I was riding my 787 gsx and works and runs great, but I turned it off at the end of the day and when I went to flush the motor later it wouldnít start. Here is the symptom, the starter selinoid clicks but the starter does nothing, doesnít spin at all. So I tried jumping the two terminals inside the black electrical box and that didnít do anything so Iím thinking I have a bad starter, but that just seems odd as I replaced it with a brand new one 6 months ago, all the wires are newer and the the connections are tight.

So where do I look next?

Put your red test lead from your meter on the red cable at the starter and Ground the other lead.

    Push the Start/Stop button.

    Are you getting 12v?

Hey it’s grumpy old guy! What’s up man, long ago, you rebuilt my carbs!

So yeah 12v is getting the starter, had a buddy hold that starter button down and verified 12v is getting the starter post. Alright I was asking a head bold for my ground and not the starter bolt.

It’s just weird, the starter does NOTHING.....

Starter bolt will not help you with a bad ground cable. You would need to test at the battery negative. Starters can go out all of the sudden. Wires can break off brushes and worn brushes can stop making connection at a moments notice.

The brand new starters available are not that reliable. Unless you buy say SBT or a few others. Rebuilding and old Denso OEM starter is the best solution. I have only ever had one that I could not rebuild due to a starter malfunction.

And if I had a bad ground wouldn’t the starters Selinoid not click? I mean I’m getting 12v to the starter itself when someone is holding the start stop.
