    Re: 650sx FPP running problems

I would have took the OEM or any quality cast piston over Wiseco, but they will work good, just make sure who ever is doing the machine work sets the proper clearance and you slowly warm the motor up before riding. If you use OEM specs you will seize them.

What is a "quality" cast piston brand? I thought I read people prefer Wiseco over WSM?

I would take OEM, ProX, and WSM over Wiseco in any ski. Victor Sheldon's SXI Pro with the 785 stroker that made 160 HP ran OEM cast pistons. On a 125 or 250 dirtbike I may change my mind, but not on a cool running ski motor.

With that said, I have one PJS800 motor with Wisecos and they have been working good. They were in there when I bought the motor, and I know Newmiller set them up right. Im still very easy on it while its getting warmed up.

wsm pistons rings and top end bearings would be fine just use oem gaskets especially the head and base. oem should be .010 stamped stainless with a coating that are crush gaskets. the thinner gaskets will both keep the compression up and lower exhaust port timing for better bottom end.

What kind of grease do you recommend putting on the crank seals? I noticed t there is grease between the outer seal and the one crank seal. When I install new seals do I need to apply any sealer to the surface where the seals meet the crank case halves or leave it dry?

    Re: 650sx FPP running problems

I just use regular marine bearing grease that I use for my trailer. Grease the inside lips and full about 1/2 seal between the two on the PTO side. I put just a dab of 1211 on the outer lip of the seals where the seam is between the two case halves, otherwise the rest of the outer lip is dry.

    Re: 650sx FPP running problems

Can the marine grease and 1211 be found at local auto parts store? I have a Westmarine pretty close, like 45 minute drive one way but can go there if needed.

The grease yes, the 1211 no. West Marine or a hardware store might have something similar like Permatex MotoSeal.
