Bought a 1988 js550 for $240 dollars that needs some love. The engine was full of water so i decided to throw in a 650 I have laying around. I plan to tear everything down and repaint and re-assemble everything. As of right now I need a 550/650 conversion plate, steering cable, am waterbox, 650 pipe and maybe a different pitch prop (unsure on what size works best). Will post pictures along the way. Thanks, Zach

Re: js550/650 build
Took all the decal and turf off as well as all the parts. It is now ready to be sanded then painted. Also have a few cracks to patch. What should I use to patch these cracks? 650sx pipe found, still need a prop, waterbox, and steering cable. Lastly, are 650 steering cables the same as a 550?Last edited by Lake St. Clair Rider; 09-25-2017, 08:17 PM.1991 550sx stock

The Cables are not the same.
I believe I have most of the parts you need.

-550 steering cable
-steep Skat impeller for the conversion

Re: js550/650 build
to properly repair the cracks and not have to worry about them coming back or getting worse, youll need to and down the cracked area to get as much of the crack out as possible, then get some epoxy resin and some cloth, add several layers overlapping the entire cracked area by a few inches, then sand down and repaint.
if that filler you used isnt made for smc, it most likely wont hold. the vintage kawasakis are made of sheet molded compound or SMC and require very clean sanded surface and epoxy based fillers or resins. if the filler you used works with smc then you should be ok.Last edited by fastgtfairlane; 02-27-2018, 09:24 PM.96 superjet- rockered, -4, wide tray, adjustable footholds, kv148 mag setback pump, skat 7/14 impeller, rrp adjustable pole, blowsion ovp steering, 62t/62t, ada head, zeel A02T cdi, dual 44s, boysen power reeds, TNT SS chamber
