    1997 Yamaha Wave Venture 1100

In between the cylinders is a screw and a small piece that is called an anode. What is this part for? When I took my engine apart the one on the left had fell out. Now I can't find where I put it. Is it a needed part or can I do without it?

It's to keep corrosion at bay, if you only ride in freshwater don't worry about it.
