    ultra 150 starting

hi yall i have a 2000 ultra 150 that is a ***** to start. i have to crank it forever to get it started. to help it start quicker can i use a seperate fuel pump to force fuel into the carburetors until its coming out the return? it also eats a fair amount of oil, is this normal? last time i took it out it was ran hard and got it up to 78mph accoring to the game warden who was running radar and pulled me over. it had about a gallon of gas and i stood on the very back. i only weigh 100 pounds and i didnt even have the front bucket in. ive cleaned the hull up and have shimmed pump, and shimmed motor for best contact with the coupler on the drive shaft. other than stat bone stock including the impeller. also i did not get a ticket.

Install a primer and stop making yourself look like a 14 year old with the 78mph bs

Sorry I couldn't do the quotes on the phone. It was supposed to say "78mph". It didn't feel like anywhere close to 70 much less 78. But can I use a separate fuel pump because I just don't want to work on this ski very much. It's had 4 starters in 12 hours. And I've already done all the work I listed above. Also you don't have to pull the engine to swap out a starter. But can I use a separate fuel pump? I have the attention span of a nat so sorry if this jumps around a lot.

It didn't feel like anywhere close to 70 much less 78 because it wasn't.

A primer is a manual fuel pump - when starting you pump the primer plunger or bulb to get gas to the carbs quicker.

Full choke and hold the throttle wide open till it pops, works every time for a cold start on those pigs. Starts in less than 15 seconds on average. Make sure the choke plates are actually closing 100% as well, most are out of adjustment. Never had to install primer kit using this method.

your fuel pump is fvcked and the fuel system has an air leak " that is why it is hard starting !", drill a 1/8 hole in the air box above the middle carb , squirt some fuel in when its cold starting and fix above mentioned issues to fix hot starting issues, the ultra tends to use a ton of oil unless you pre mix (see ultra and stx-r owners thread ), if you are agile and know exactly where the mounting bolts are , you can change out a starter without lifting the motor . no way would you get anywhere close to even 70 with the mods done maybe 60 with a tailwind and a coppa chasing you. ,

Sorry for not being very specific, it starts fine when hot. But I will replace fuel line because it's 18 years old! Thanks for all the help!
