    96 XP rebuild/resto/rescue? :D

New to the forum from the east Texas area. I bought a 96 XP last night, the hull is in awesome shape... the engine... not so much haha. I bought this ski to run in the pro watercross event in lewisville next summer (hopefully). I also bought it to learn about 2 strokes and jet skis in general. Currently trying to decide whether to rebuild myself or order a refurbished engine, any thoughts there would be greatly appreciated! Whats the best manual to have for the engine rebuild? Any other "books" etc I should buy? I have a PDF of the FSM. Here are some pictures of the current status. The rod without the piston attached is froze up. He lost one of the jugs over the years, so will at least need that. I believe most of the rave valve components are there though... carbs are still in the hull... need to pull and probably rebuild those. What should I look at doing to get this back on the water other than the engine? New fuel/oil lines? Jet pump rebuild? Cleaning out the fuel tank and oil tank obviously is on the list also. Looking forward to getting it back on the water!

I would strip everything out, gas tank and all, give it a good cleaning and start fresh. You need new fuel lines, new fuel selector, fuel filter and much more. I would purchase a refurb motor and save yourself a lot of time.

    Re: 96 XP rebuild/resto/rescue? :D

That is the plan absolutely. My MIL is here this week so it will have to wait till next week. I am planning to build a rolling cart for it as well to put in my shop to work on during the off season. I figure get it as clean as possible before putting it in my shop and go from there. I am leaning towards the refurbished engine as being possibly the cheapest way also... I need to total up both options and go from there I imagine. Thanks for the advice!

If you need a quote on any sbt parts send a pm.
    I would do the following-
jet pump wear ring and oil
    carb clean and or rebuild
    fuel lines
    selector
    check all cables
    rebuild raves
How many gerbils could a gerbil jammer jam if a gerbil jammer could jam gerbils?

I will have to PM you... do you know if sbt will do a no core engine or know of anyone that does? I was thinking I may want to keep this and rebuild it over time after I get another engine as a spare? Plan to do the carbs for sure... and that fuel outlet in the tank looks pretty gross. I did find this on ebay... looks like it might simplify some things about adding new hoses etc back in... Thoughts?

Okay, yah I figured they needed the spare parts. I am missing a jug... wonder if they would take it without a jug? Oh perhaps I should just look for a core for later to rebuild as a spare...

Updates for the evening... Pulled some stuff out... MPEM and both tanks and some fuel lines. Then just some soap and water and a scrub sponge and it cleaned up really nice in there! Cant wait to get an engine in it!

I can send you a core jug if you pay shipping and a few bucks for packing it up and sending. PM me.
