    650 X2 carb at 5 turns out???

Got a nice looking X2. It has the larger Keihin carb, 38mm I believe. When I got it, it was running hot, so I replaced the head gasket. Fixed the sputtering pisser problem. Now the front cylinder gets hotter. It seems to run fine.
I took the carb off to clean it just in case, and when I checked the carb, both screws were like 4 and 5 turns out....Isnt that odd?
Does anyone have any experience with this? Could this cause my problems?
    Thanks for the help

Find out your pop off pressure and your jetting, then report back.

I thought they only turn out 3 turns max... Not familiar with that exact model, but 4-5 sounds off.

3 turns out is max; any more than that and 1) you are not actually increasing the fuel flow, 2) the spring tension will not hold the screw and it may back out further on it's own.

It sounds like you may have an air leak; do you know how old the crank seals are? Have you checked / torqued the intake manifold bolts / nuts recently?

This project got put on the back burner for a while. Tuned it back to stock specs and it wont even revv up. Ill have to make the pop off pressure gauge and see.

I also have a set of duals that I may put on it...

For a new-to-you ski that wass obviously suffering from the hands of a novice mechanic, you should go through and check a few things to see what you're working with. First, compression, then crank leakdown. Without those two in order, nothing will work right. Then, a thorough carb inspection... Jets, popoff, gaskets. Write down the current jetting in case you ever need it again. Clean out all the circuits with carb cleaner and q tip out any varnish. Then, if it's not working right, you can rule out some major systems and troubleshooting is much easier.
