waterhappy: That sounds like truth to me.

    What is a "pump fill"?

And while we are at it, if you know, what is a "pump set back"?

A pump fill is when you put a piece of pvc over the drive shaft exit and fill so the water flows smoother into the pump. A set back pump is when you use a pump shoe that moved the pump (2 inches typically) back from stock position so lengthen the intake area so it handles white wash better. You can set back with a 750/800 pump and this is the time to upgrade to a mag pump. (12 vein instead of 6 and larger inside hub)

I'm wondering if waterhappy is talking about the "driveshaft fill". Here's a how to thread for this that actually has pictures!... basically - where the driveshaft passes through the hull into the front of the pump inlet, there's a recessed area in the hull. guys fill it with fiberglass filler (not bondo) so that the pump inlet has a smooth surface. the stock recess creates a turbulent area in the inlet. There's a stock part from Kawasaki for the sxr or sxi / sxi pro that fits here as well & does this job.

spxfanatic: Just read the entire thread you linked. Thanks buddy!

waterhappy: We have a 650X2. I notice the same ski in your signature. What Mods have you done to your 650X2? I wonder what can really benefit the 650cc engine? Would the pump mod you have mentioned be underpowered by the 650cc, etc.?

I haven't updated signature in a long time. I have a three open X2 and a stock race X2. All are pump fill, the stock boat without a lot of power chops ruff water better and runs out better. I haven't tuned it in a while but with a deep loader 150psi stock pipe with a 38 kehin it hits 41mph.

So what driveshaft and intake grate would you use for a set back pump?
