A shocker for sure. He had some luck that day also. He had pole position in moto 1.

My brother and I held for him those races. He's a super cool guy and is very very knowledgeable about X2s and how to maximize their performance for the class. And yes, everybody that was holding was either speechless and in shock or excited when they seen the X2 pull everybody to the first turn!

Watersled: What an honor! I am not asking for trade secrets, but were there any obvious (visible to anybody) modifications including modifications which permitted more air for the engine?

Danny was a very honest guy and did not keep any secrets about his ski. He welcomed people to look at it and what not. Now my brother or I didn't get the opportunity to look super close at the ski due to being busy most of the day with our skis, so I couldn't tell you about the air flow but I really didn't notice anything special on the outside of the hood. But it was a stock 800 engine with stock carbs, compression, etc with only a pipe. He said the biggest part that made that ski fast was all the fine, intricate tuning he did to the engine, pump and handling over all the years.

In sport spec a properly set up X2 will always holeshot the Blasters and HXs...that is how the rules for the class were designed. Props to Danny, a super cool guy and a helluva X2 pilot!

    More X2 holeshot action

My buddy had an 800 in an x2 and it ran fine without any hood modifications.
