SXR 1500- how hot is too hot?

I don't know much about 4 strokes but this motor really runs hot. I have a service manual, but it sais nothing about max temp.

Red light comes on if oil temp gets too high. But what is too high?

After hard are motor in 95f air temp and 85f water I have had the engine so hot water sizzles when it hits the cases/ cylinder. Ski runs great, oil looks great.

My my water lines are clear!

After looking at at the water flow diagram, their is very little water cooling this motor. Maybe R&D is on to something when they are offering a 5 line cooling system!

This is ski is awesome! Just need more power Plan on taking temp gun to the water this weekend.

    Thought?

I previouslyhad a STX15F which used the same motor and had no issues. I understand what you are saying but you may be overthinking it. The main thing I do is to do some idle time or slow speed riding after running hard before shutting down the engine to give it time to cool down.

The first time I took mine out, I ended up taking it back to the dealer because I thought it was going to seize it was so hot. They checked it out and said everything was good. I just keep riding and everything seems good.

    thanks for the feedback!
I am taking a temp gun next trip out. Will just keep monitoring.
My Kawasaki dealer told me not to worry about it. Evidently if the oil sensor failed, the ski goes into shutdown mode.

typical 4t oil temps hover around 225 to 245.250 is not unheard of and around 275 it starts to break down.

Kawi dumps all the cooling water into the muffler & the fittings are very restricted to keep the motor very hot.

On 15Fs we sometimes have to open up the exit fittings in order to let the water flow out & let the motor run cooler. What happens is the ski will run fine all day long & then when they drop down to idle the water pressure drops & the water in the motor starts to boil & then it starts shooting stem out the pisser.

This is in Fla where summer water temps are 80-90 already. All my experience is with the sit downs but I am sure Kawi has done nothing to change it in a standup.

4t burns less fuel the less u heat the cooling water. All heat soaked away is generated by burning fuel, less taken away, lil less fuel used. Old lt1 w/reverse flow cooling run pretty hot, always seemed wrong when u popped the hood

Seadoo & Yamaha use thermostats & Kawi doesnt so they have to restrict the water leaving the motor to get the heat up.
