Re: BJP Prize Ski Build Thread - JS701 Sleepersaki - Jet Blast 2018

Got her in the water twice this weekend. Wow does the 140mm pump make a difference. Makes the hull track through everything so much better, because it just stays hooked up and steering inputs actually make a difference. The stock 61x jetting is definitely too rich for the 650LX exhaust and oem waterbox. Leaned it a bit after the first ride and it was noticeably better the second time out. Still need to make another change and will see how close to ideal we are at that point, but it is already much snappier overall than even modded 550s I have ridden. She will definitely be a fun play boat once dialed it. Don't expect it to be an extreme arm-stretcher, but she will get some nice pop off boat wakes.

Re: BJP Prize Ski Build Thread - JS701 Sleepersaki - Jet Blast 2018

Been busy with family stuff and Jet Blast 2018 planning as of late, but I have done some tuning/riding on Sleepersaki over the past 4 weeks. The smaller 650LX exhaust and stock JS waterbox are restrictive enough to require much leaner jetting compared to stock 61x jetting. Got a Mariner waterbox (with the previously broken baffle now removed) going in this week to test. We shall see.

Re: BJP Prize Ski Build Thread - JS701 Sleepersaki - Jet Blast 2018

    Spring update:

Remember, someone IS going to win this ski in our Campfire Poker Run at Jet Blast 2018 on Saturday, June 2nd, 2018.

I took the winter off from building skis for the first time in well over a decade. Sometimes priorities in life force changes

So, Sleepersaki will be getting some changes very soon. The flexible OEM cooling line is too restrictive, so I am pulling it out and adding a 3/8" thin wall stainless tube. I may also drill out the fittings on the pump. Basically just need to make sure the 701 is getting similar cooling water flow as it would in a SJ or Blaster. I'm also removing the LX650 exhaust and going with a more common 6m6/61x OEM system next, along with the gutted Mariner waterbox I added last fall. This will make tank fitment trickier, but oh well, power matters more.

See you at Jet Blast!!!! Can't wait to call out the winner's name

Re: BJP Prize Ski Build Thread - JS701 Sleepersaki - Jet Blast 2018

A few more changes to Sleepersaki this past weekend. Swapped out the smaller 650LX exhaust for the larger 61x/6m6 version and just heat-gunned and modded the gas tank a bit to make it fit. Also added a second cooling line and tapped an extra fitting in the 750 pump. Extra line is thin wall SS, 3/8", running on the left side. Issue with the single OEM kawi line is the small ID of that Kawi tube running through the hull. The 701 was clearly not getting enough water. Was running really warm, and took a good 5-10 seconds after starting the motor to prime up the whole cooling system. So now with both cooling lines tee'd into the OEM exhaust water inlet, it will now get fed water just like it did from any Yami 144mm pump, and I can dry out the exhaust if I want to - without starving the motor of enough cooling volume.

And now that spring seems to FINALLY be here in Wisconsin, I can get some final testing and tuning done before the lucky winner's name is called out at Jet Blast 2018 in just 4 weeks!!!

Re: BJP Prize Ski Build Thread - JS701 Sleepersaki - Jet Blast 2018

I've had several people ask me about trying to win Sleepersaki who won't be able to attend Jet Blast 2018. This WILL be an option.

Since last year, instead of raffles (calling names for an hour with 100+ prizes each year gets boring) we have been doing the "campfire poker run". So, we set up 5 campsites with decks of cards and attendees meander around and draw their cards.

We do 2 games. One general game for the "smaller" prizes from Skat-Trak, Klotz, Blowsion, etc... One grand prize game for that year's prize ski and whatever Jet-Lift loads us up with. Scorecards can be purchased for either game, but with the general game you really need to be there to choose your prizes. With the grand prize game it's easier to do remotely.

So, if you want a chance to win Sleepersaki, send me an email at psucharski@tds.net. You can purchase scorecards for the Grand Prize game. Price is $20 each or 4 for $60. I will have one of our club members draw your cards for you and turn them in for scoring. If you have a winning hand, I will get you on the phone live at the event where you can hear it all happening live (so I will need your cell number).

Make sense? Let me know if you have questions.

    Edit:
Forgot to mention that the campfire poker run part of the event is happening on Saturday June 3rd, starting about 6pm. If you want in on this I will need your email and payment by the Friday BEFORE Memorial Day.

Re: BJP Prize Ski Build Thread - JS701 Sleepersaki - Jet Blast 2018

First ride with the larger 6m6/61x exhaust and gutted mariner waterbox today. It's a whole different ski. Tons more power and snap versus the 650LX exhaust. That 650LX was really holding it back. Was running next to my buddy on his limited blaster, which we've GPS'd at 48mph previously, and he was just barely squeaking away from me. This is a legit 47mph JS, and I still plan to tune a bit this week and make sure it's perfect. Yep, she's a ripper, and the hook up with that 140mm pump and Solas prop is incredible.
