JRE turnplate with adjustable bars and finger throttle installed. Set the bars up for zero degree simply to be able to get as far foward as possible. Bars measure 24" wide, which is about 3" narrower than the 4 degree blowsions I prefer, but this will still be plenty wide for the JS hull w/o tubbies.

Time for a 701 motor now . Almost there...

I was busy the past week or so having a blast at the 12th annual TCJP Sortie, but finally had some more time today to work on Sleepersaki.

I gave the 701 donor motor a quick hone today and ordered new piston rings. Coupler dampner has been drilled as needed to fit over the yami crankshaft, ADA coupler has been installed, static timing has been set, bottom end is aligned and shimmed nicely, and I modded a coupler cover from a 701 raider to serve a new purpose in its life.

More progress. Assembled and installed an ebox with wire lengths appropriate for this build. Had to notch out the coupler cover a bit.

Thanks bird. With everything Robin Haas has done for the BJPs over the years, and with his crazy generous donation for this build, I figured it's the least I could do.

It really is a pretty damn straightforward build. Assuming it runs half as well as I expect it to, it's really a build that anyone on the fence about SHOULD just do.

I honed the cylinder, installed new rings and gaskets, and decided on the plug wire routing. When I assembled the ebox I chose a coil with long wires.

I'll try to take and post some pictures later showing why I've decided against using the 650sx pipe with Coffman's manifold that "fits".

Here is a quick example picture of why I am probably not going to use the 650sx cheater pipe I modded for this build. Look closely. The edge of the Coffman's manifold is resting on the edge of the head, and you can see that the outside edge of the rear chamber section will have a tough time clearing the side of the hull. Keep in mind that the whole system still needs to move another 1/3 inch or so to the left. Yeah, I suppose I can forget using a hangar bolt and rotate the rear chamber section inward. The other issue is also clearing the lip of the hull where the hood gasket goes. So, one fix would be to get a longer silicone coupler piece for where the headpipe exit meets the rear chamber inlet = I could then rotate the rear chamber inward towards the motor and downward to clear the hull lip. I could then also "adjust" both chamber pieces within the large coupler accordingly.

Yeah, then it would "fit", I suppose. It would perpetually rub and look cobbled in my eyes, but it could be made to "fit". I'm not a fan of using couplers where the metal parts inside of them are not securely flush against each other = as that is a recipe for short coupler life. I guess my definition of "fit" is on the picky side.

I agree with your definition of FIT because if it's worth doing then it's worth doing right. There is no way a coupler could withstand the heat of poor fitment.
Never argue with an idiot, they will drag you down to their level then beat you with experience.
