Leaving the 580 exhaust in there was keeping him back. The 657X/720 exhaust will give you a true 85hp. In those hulls I've used aftermarket flame arrestors because space is tight.

I just acquired a 1992 with the 720 in it, currently needs the wire harness and computer, how do I identify what pipe was installed. I believe the motor is from a 97 sp, has single carb

That looks like a 587 pipe and the sh!tty one at that you at the least need the two piece pipe preferably from a 657 or better yet a 720, you will probably have to change the exhaust manifold to match the pipe as they mount different. You will also have to change to the shorter style waterbox.

yes pipe off of a 95 XP , 96-97 GTI, 97 GSI or GS, or you can use the newer manifold and pipe off the newer GTI LE it has bigger bolts on the exhaust manifold to pipe and is more durable

Did you have to do anything with the wiring for the start and stop buttons? I am about to put a 657x in a 1993 XP which should be similar to the 720 swap.

Re: My 1993 SPX 580 to 720 Swap

If it's a 657X from a 94 then it will have a 5 wire system and you will have to use the electronics from the ski that engine came in or change the flywheel and stator to the 4 wire system. If it's a 95 engine then it's already 4 wire. That would plug in but you might hit the 93 rev limiter with the 657X especially if your using the 93 impeller because it is pitched for 60hp and the X has 80.

Re: My 1993 SPX 580 to 720 Swap

You will defiantly need an MPEM from a 657 equipped ski or an aftermarket rev limiter , you will also need to change the impeller , the rev limit on a 587 is only 5550 RPM. 567's and 720's rev to 7000 RPM's, A 720 MPEM will also work but then you need to convert to Dess and have the lanyard programmed to make it work.

I am about to do the same swap in a 94 GTX

Re: My 1993 SPX 580 to 720 Swap

I am changing all of it. I have the ebox complete from the 657x. It was a complete ski that I bought. I am changing the ebox, engine, carbs, and exhaust. The entire thing. I just didn't know if it would plug straight with the equipment such as the start and stop buttons. I am pretty sure I can just wire the vts into the ebox.

I should have added that it is from a 95 GTX and going into a 93 XP. I have the title to the XP and like riding that ski.
