    Usually just sealer.
From your other pix it looks like whoever worked on it before liked to REALLY bond the gaskets on.

    Re: Zxi1100 center piston

When a cylinder is not running, the piston crown is washed clean and the
spark plug is white. All 3 cylinders appear to be running. But when I see a
black stain over the entire piston crown, that is associated with detonation
(but in your case that might all be carbon instead of a stain?? Difficult to tell
with the limited info we have).

It appears that all 3 cylinders were detonating because the outer 2 were
heavily loaded because of the center piston failing. Basically the front and
rear piston crowns don't tell us much more than what we already knew.

Whoever worked on it last sure reused gaskets a lot, that is a really bad
habit when you have Keihin carbs. The Kawasaki metal gaskets can be
reused, but they should be coated with 1211 or Ultra-Silicone before they
are installed. Those gaskets were bare. BM

Looking at the cases It looks like if you had long enough bolts and a puller, there might be some tabs on the side of the cases you could pull on to separate the cases.

I would make a tool as I am a machinist but not everyone has the machinery I have either. Worst case if you can't get them apart bring them over to my shop and we'll see what we could come up with.

There is 1 pry point on each side crankcase.

One is on the rear, the other is on the front.

Ok, ordered a,crank, from, pwcengine last Thursday, came today, and I'm concerned.
I'm hardly an expert, and they are... but some of these bearings don't feel great to me...I'm seriously considering using the old crank....how do I tell if the bearings were damaged during assembly?
