Thunder Jet, Viper and VHP 7000

    What is the difference?
was the VHP 7000 the predecessor to the Thunder Jet?
i am considering buying a 1990 VHP! Therefore I ask...

You're not going to find a 1990 VHP. They were only available to the public in 1995...not even prototyped until 1993.

VHP7000 is a boat built by PJS. Hull, Motor, Pump...everything.

Thunder Jet was a model name made by Laser jet. Available in 1992 and 1993. It had a PJS motor and pump. Laser Jet was out of Huntington Beach, Cali.

1992 550 SX - R&R port Kawi Reed, Kind of fast.
    1989 JS 550 - PJS motor Dual 46's, 50 MPH on GPS.
    1989 Wet Jet - Upgraded 1994 50 HP motor & exhaust.
1986 JS 550 - Engine built. Working on fiberglass!
    1976 JS 400 - Pretty much just a shell.

Did you ever see the Laser Jet rescue boat made from 2 laser jet hulls?

Bill ... Is that what the Viper 9000 motors were for?

Bruce - those were for the PJS sit downs.

"Viper" was a term used on the engines. The stand up was technically called a VHP Viper with a Viper 7000 engine - dual 38mm carbed 550.

Well I have a PJS Seajet and it is not the same as the Viper 9000 motor at all
The 9000 is like a Supercylinder motor but the reeds are in the cylinders like a 550 PJS cylinder
I read somewhere the 9000 motor was developed for a rescue boat

Re: Thunder Jet, Viper and VHP 7000

The large cylinder reed engines were designed to be connected to a
jet pump assembly for small jet boats.

They were similar to a Yamaha pump assembly with a bed pan connected
to the pump gullet, and they had a reverse gate.

Some of them had pumps that snapped to the bulkhead mount and pump
gullet to allow easy clean out of weeds and debris.

Not that I am aware of. It was a long time ago when I saw it.

I remember the basic outline but not the details.

I am fairly certain mtrhead worked there before he worked at Kawasaki.
