    new engine from where

    hello all,
The title says it. I need an engine for an stx or zxi 1100. I have both but have not decided which one to keep. Probably the stx because it seems bigger and more comfortable. I have 4 skis but only one runs. I have a good grasp of what is needed but really do not have a lot of experience with skis. I have pulled the engine from both. one has a hole in it and I think I could make the other run. I have had these skis awhile and can just now put an engine in one. I am asking for the experience of the veterans. What is the best choice? Buy a new one? from who? I see a lot of people do not like SBT due to cheap parts.
So do I build my own? Is there another choice? A suggestion?

    Thanks

1 - I would go with SBT because I believe their no fault warranty is hard to beat
2 - I believe they rebuild more pwc motors than any other source, by far
3 - I believe the odds are there will be some failures when you build as many as they do
4 - If still in doubt see #1

My other choice would be a nice clean fresh water used motor with good compression from a reliable seller for a lot less $ than a SBT rebuild - Easier said than done

    Thanks for the replies.

restosud where is here? What do we consider great shape? What kind of cost is attached to these engines Shipped to 22551? Are they fresh water or salt water? Compression? Hours? You get the idea all the basic questions. Hopefully you are close to VA

Don37725 I agree with everything you have said. Have you ever purchased an engine from SBT? Does your current ski have an SBT engine in it? Are you in any way affiliated with SBT?

If I were to forgo buying one ready to drop in does it make better sense just to use stock parts and rebuild my good core. (obviously, but not dropping 2k or better on 21 year old ski.) What I mean is just using stock piston and rings and having the crank checked by who? Any machine shop? It is not like we have a 2 stroke builder in town.

    Thanks for any advice offered.

Is it the original crank? Common sense says that a 21 year old crank should be rebuilt or replaced if you are already rebuilding the rest of the motor.

I purchased an engine for my Jetmate from SBT about 5 yrs ago and was happy with it - It was sold after a few years as I change ski the way woman change shoes - My current ski has the original Yamaha 760 in it - No affiliation to SBT in any way, just a past satisfied customer.

Do you guys think a 7 year old bag of cheetos is still good? The bag has pessure inside, and does not have much settling. Should I hold onto it, or burn one and rip this pig open?

(I'm going to burn one, either way.)

I think after hearing your opinions it seems like the simplest way is just to buy it and hope it lasts. Its not like I am trying to get a racer. Just reliability.

    Thanks for the input

I believe SBT may detune the head domes. This assists in their warranty. Great for reliability and longevity. I have an sbt in my 750 standup. Runs great. I will be swapping the head out though for greater compression.
