    Gas/oil ratio for 440

I just got the service manual for 440 and it says that the gas/oil ratio is 40:1, but on the jet ski, just below the fuel tank cap it says ratio 50:1. Does anyone know why this difference in the specifications?

I use 40:1 in mine. Its an old engine and a liitle bit of oil does an awful lot of work. Oil is cheap compared to engine rebiuld.

As oil quality has gotten better over the years, the ratios have been able to change. You are safe at 50:1 with todays TCW-3 oil, but nothing wrong with a 40:1 ratio. A little extra oil will actually help rings seal, and increase compression a little.

Yeah, I use 50:1 for 4-5 years now (I only ride during summer), but I found it strange that it gives different specs in the manual and on the jet ski. The jet ski is a 1987 model.

My 1984 JS440 shows 32:1. I never run it that low.
