Re: My New To Me Daytona 1000

I spent a few hours with a buffer and she is starting to look respectable again. You can see I have still have to do the other side but she is progressing nicely. I also cleaned out the oil tank. I figured it was wise to do before running the engine. All I need to do now is modify the engine mounting plate before I can reinstall the engine.

Re: My New To Me Daytona 1000

I modified the engine cradle so I could remove the magneto cover without having to remove the engine from the cradle. Talk about a stupid design. I'm about ready to get the engine reinstalled. This old girl keeps getting closer to running again.

Re: My New To Me Daytona 1000

Making good progress. The engine is back in and i'm starting to get things connected. I have a few questions though... I need help figuring out where these hoses connect to. One is a water line and the other is a fuel line. I think for the water line where the small stubby hose comes out from the T is where is connects to the purple exhaust pipe? Where does the end of this hose go to if the T part connects to the purple pipe? The water box? The fuel line I have no idea where it goes. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Re: My New To Me Daytona 1000

Its nice to see someone actually caring about a tigershark. I just watched some videos you made on your youtube channel. People treat these skis like the scum of the earth so its refreshing to watch your progress on saving this ski. Keep it up man! Hows its coming so far?

Re: My New To Me Daytona 1000

Thanks! It's coming along nicely. I took the day off work today to finish the engine up -- installing the carbs and exhaust. Do you know where the water lines go in the post I made above? I'm guessing one goes to the purple pipe and the to ???

Re: My New To Me Daytona 1000

Carburetors have been installed and synced up and the exhaust pipe has a fresh coat of paint to make the engine pop. It won't be long now... all i'm waiting for is an exhaust gasket (wrong gasket was sent). vroom

It's alive! This is the first time this ski has ran in over a decade. Now all I need is a jet pump and to button a few loose ends. #almostthere

Re: My New To Me Daytona 1000

Today was the maiden voyage of Project Freebie Jet Ski. After working through some issues I finally got the ski running great. This was my first time driving a Daytona 1000 and I was impressed. I have owned just about every single muscle craft from 1995-2006 (Ultra 150's, XP's, GP's, ZXi's, GSXL, RXP, and XPL) and i'm surprised this jet ski didn't catch on. I prefer the hull over the ZXi's and Ultra's and the engine was pretty strong. Even though my Daytona 1000 is in desperate need of a wear ring it still held its own against my 95' XP800 (61mph on GPS). The XP walked the Tigershark on topend but I'm thinking with a good wear ring and impeller it might be a more even match. Not bad! Question is, do I want to spend the money on a wear ring and new impeller? Decisions...

Re: My New To Me Daytona 1000

It's worth fixing. I just sold one of mine for $1400 no trailer or battery. They are amazing skis. They sold a respectable number of 97s but 98 was very slow and then they died..

Not great for long distances but if you like to play this one will definitely put a smile on your face. Keep up the love, these old sharks deserve it after the rough life most of them have had.
