On any shark other than the tripples i would say go for it, but after having my bendix lock up on me last summer im going to say spend the extra money and do it right. Unless you modify the bed plate you will just be pulling the motor again in the next few seasons.

Re: My New To Me Daytona 1000

I finally received my new starter and bendix and installed them. I was able to check the compression with the engine out with a hillbilly setup and everything looks good. The engine has 130PSI in each cylinder which seems really healthy for a 3 cylinder engine in my opinion. Anyone know what the compression numbers should be?

On the bottom of the engine under the starter there is this accordion looking rubber tube. What is this for? Mine is completely destroyed and in ripped. Is this suppose to be some kind of drain?

It is not a drain, but a small air expansion chamber for the sealed magneto housing. It allows expansion of the internal air, without it forcing out somewhere, and then creating a vacuum when cooled, and possibly drawing in water. And electricity and water don't mix!

I put a hose on mine and ran it up high and out of the way instead of the bladder.

And I don't think 130 is a problem. Equality between cylinders is also a preferred thing.

Anyone know how to perform a stator test on a 97 Daytona 1000? I would like to test the stator before reinstalling the engine. Thanks!

No easy way except to install and look for strong spark.

If you want to go threw the trouble you can a dmm and measure the different voltages specified in the manual, but again you have to install and start the motor.

Which bolt is impossible reach on the stator cover? I'm going to leave that one off in case I have to remove at a later date.

Re: My New To Me Daytona 1000

I would not recommend leaving any bolts out as water will enter threw it and ruin things. I used a die grinder and shaved the lip off of my bed plate last fall when i replaced my bendix.

I plan on using threcebond 1211 to seal the cover. I have never liked paper gaskets for the mag cover.
