Re: Has it been asked? How to become a pwc/boat mechanic

manufacturer certifications. I dont know about the PWC / marine industry but, certifications are the main qualifiers for jobs in the IT industry. Want to get a cob working on cisco systems? get a cisco cert. Want a job working on yamaha outboards? get a yamaha cert.

    Back to the op's question.

You could always just specialize on what you know. I only work on Yamaha, Kawasaki and Sea-Doo, two cycles engines. Bid all others jobs high and sub them out. Pumps and Body Work pretty much all the same.

I use SBT. Its a few 2 strokes I wont rebuild. Just did a 03 951di. I wasn't going to take the chance doing the work myself on that engine. It was over 4k to do the job with a year no fault warranty, not including labor. Rod went threw cases, even knocked off the starter. Ski had 48 hours and looked like it just came off the show room floor. I wont build a 4 strokeeither but I will swap one out with a SBT rebuild.

I understand the sentiment. But believe me, boats are something the average person doesn't have a clue about. It's unreal the **** people dream up when it comes to repairing or even maintaining their boats. In the average marina, HALF the customers are idiots.
