    Re: Westcoast Themed 550

That looks really pretty I might polish the motor. The crank cases are gonna be so hard to do and the small tight areas on the block.

I would be interested in a hood as well. Get a chance to find out if he would make any more?

    Re: Westcoast Themed 550

Ok I finally finished gutting hull, and gonna pressure wash it out and prepare to do the rear exhaust, then follow it up by paint.

on the last picture are the hull extensions, and they need to be glassed over and sanded down, that's the most likely cause for the hull roll at speed.. i get physics are at play here but that extensions aren't helping.

    Re: Westcoast Themed 550

i would just cut them off completely if i were you. most likely it has water in it. i cut mine off and love how much better it handles. turns quicker more responsive, no porpoising either. you can run a longer ride plate that will help keep the nose down.

    Re: Westcoast Themed 550

that's an option, but we will see. I think i'm gonna first use a pipe and sand paper and smooth it , then once I get it where i want it, i'll glass it over and sand again. It already has a Westcoast extended Finned ride plate. another thing i Noticed is the ride plate was missing a bolt. on left corner closest to pump.

When I pulled off the pump its still pretty clean, and even after 3 seasons of riding the skat trak impeller still looks new. I just dunno what to do with the 550 pump. I received a complete 440 pump with a 16.5 impeller, the question is where do I tap the pump for another cooling line? to make things easier i'm gonna use the oem bilge fitting as the second cooling line, unless its not recommended. i'll have a westcoast relay but the switch on the relay goes into the Res. switch. I think I'm going to remove that switch off and add this one.

the pictured switch is waterproof, Its basically a motorcycle headlight switch.

    Re: Westcoast Themed 550

So today before I headed to work I decided its time to give the ski a Power bath so I can get to work on the hull mods and repairs.
    It needed it.IMAG0469.jpg

Pulled out the Trust Pressure washer. put on a strong tip and began.
    IMAG0470.jpgIMAG0471.jpg

Here are the results I discovered some issues with the hull afterwords though.
    IMAG0475.jpgIMAG0476.jpgIMAG0477.jpg

I stripped about 75% of the paint some gel coat too. And i noticed These issues are gonna require further cleanup and some glass work.
IMAG0473.jpgIMAG0474.jpg as you can see there are crack at the hulls weak points.

Here is 1 of a couple areas where I Accidentally took off to much material and I'm gonna need to smoothen it out or fill it.
    IMAG0472.jpg

That is the best method to fix these areas? My initial though was to get some fiberglass body filler smooth it out, my second idea was mix some gel coat and slop it on there with a brush let it dry then sand it down. Suggestions?

My Next steps are to drill out the area for the rear exhaust, and to work on hull imperfections, like truing it and repairing cracks.

I looked at possibly using these too, the only issue is that they're typically only IP65 rated(splash proof, not submersible). I used "waterproof" switches for my bilge last summer and they succumbed to the water rather quickly. Couldn't turn it off or on, would just run constantly at half strength. You'll want something that's rated for IP67 which would be rated for submersion of around 1 meter.

    Re: Westcoast Themed 550

I'm gonna Start the body prep today, Get rid of the paint and clean the surface for filling in the scratches and such on the bottom of hull, also I'm going to grind out the stress cracks and prep them to fill. the plan is to grind out bad area, then fill with some layers of mat glass, then use some type of fairing compount so fill low spots then hit it with some gel coat and it smooth then prime it.
