    Jet Ski explodes; victims air-lifted

    http://www.neagle.com/news/20160728/...ims-air-lifted

PALMYRA TWP. (Pike) - A mother and her young boy went for a Jet Ski ride on sunny Lake Wallenpaupack, Wednesday morning, July 27, but instead were taken by separate helicopters to Lehigh Valley Medical Center.
The crisis unfolded at about 9:06 a.m. when their Polaris Waverunner exploded near Wilsonville Campground. Waterways Conservation Officer Robert Plumb, PA Fish & Boat Commission, said from the scene that he did know the condition of the victims.
They were later identified as Rebecca Ruddy, age 43, of Mountain Top, PA, and her seven year old son.
One woman watching the emergency workers from a bench on shore said she heard a loud explosion when it happened.
Plumb stated that the victims had just pulled out from a dock slip and turned on the engine, when it blew. Parts of the machine were scattered on the water and were put on the shoreline. These include the hood and the seat.
Tafton Ambulance took the victims to the landing zone set up at Wallenpaupack North Primary School where the helicopters met them.
Volunteers with Tafton Fire Company were laying floatation booms on either side of the dock to catch any residual fuel. The Jet Ski had sunk in about 10 feet of water; Tow Boat USA was dispatched to salvage it.
There was apparently no damage to other water craft anchored at docks on either side.
What made the Jet Ski explode is still under investigation, according to the PA Fish & Boat Commission.
Otherwise, the morning started out with the makings of a beautiful summer day on the lake. Motorboats were going by in the background, and someone was para-sailing high in the air, towed by a boat.

Woman injured in watercraft explosion on Smith Mountain Lake

    http://www.thefranklinnewspost.com/s...99c352859.html

A 61-year-old woman was injured on Smith Mountain Lake on Tuesday morning when her personal watercraft exploded.

The incident happened sometime after 11 a.m., near channel marker R-26, according to Officer Shannon Smith with the Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries.

Jeanne Mosher was flown to Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital. Her injuries do not appear to be life-threatening, according to DGIF Lt. Chris Thomas.

The explosion occurred when the victim attempted to start her Polaris personal watercraft while docked, according to DGIF Sgt. Karl Martin. The explosion threw the victim off the watercraft and into the water. The woman’s husband heard the explosion and was able to pull his wife to shore before calling 911, Martin said.

Thomas said the explosion appeared to have been caused by gasoline vapors that ignited. The Polaris was the only vehicle involved.

In addition to DGIF and the Smith Mountain Lake Marine Volunteer Fire/Rescue squad, medics from Bedford County Rescue responded.

    http://www.iowadnr.gov/About-DNR/DNR...lack-Hawk-Lake

LAKE VIEW – A personal water craft exploded Tue on Black Hawk Lake in Sac County sending two people to the hospital.

Chris Forman, 40, and his wife Angie, 41, of Omaha, Neb., were operating the personal water craft when it flipped over. After finally being able to get the vessel upright, gasoline had apparently leaked into the engine compartment causing it to explode while being started shortly after 11 a.m. on Tuesday.

Both of the passengers were thrown into the water by the blast, but were wearing life jackets. They were taken to Loring Hospital in Sac City where they were kept overnight.

The Lake View Fire Department, Lake View Police Department and the Sac County Sheriff’s Department assisted at the scene.

Woman injured after personal watercraft explodes on Loon Lake in Waterford

    http://www.theoaklandpress.com/gener...e-in-waterford

The Oakland County Sheriff’s Office Marine Unit is investigating after a Waterford Township woman’s personal watercraft exploded over the weekend on a local lake.

Sheriff’s deputies and responders from the Waterford Regional Fire Department were called at 6:15 p.m. to investigate the explosion on Loon Lake.

Emergency callers told officials that a 47-year-old woman was injured, but managed to return to shore with only minor injuries.

The woman had just refueled the wave runner, but it was not immediately clear whether that contributed to the explosion, authorities said.

Emergency personnel took the woman to McLaren Oakland Hospital for treatment a short time after arriving at the lake.

The incident remains under investigation, deputies say.

2 Women In Critical Condition After Jet Ski Crashes Into LI Bridge

    http://newyork.cbslocal.com/2016/08/...h-long-island/

ISLAND PARK, N.Y. — Two women have been seriously injured after authorities say their personal watercraft struck a bridge on Long Island.

Nassau County police say the women, ages 24 and 29, were traveling in the Reynolds Channel around 7 p.m. on a 2009 Yamaha jet ski Monday when they hit the Long Island Railroad Bridge in Island Park. The crash left both victims unconscious.

Police say a father and son fishing nearby jumped in the water and pulled the women to shore with help from a couple on another jet ski that was also in the waterway on an unrelated excursion.

Long Beach Fire Department authorities took both to a local hospital. They are listed in critical condition, WCBS 880’s Mike Xirinachs reported.

    The crash remains under investigation.

Police are asking anyone who may have witnessed the incident to contact authorities.

    Jet Ski Accident Injures Man

    http://www.krsl.com/local-news/6830-...nt-injures-man

A Hays man was transported to Russell Regional Hospital Sunday afternoon after an apparent jet ski accident at Wilson Lake.

According to Wilson State Park Wildlife and Parks Officer Willis Ohl, at 2:05 PM Sunday, law enforcement and emergency personnel were alerted to a possible drowning at Wilson Lake involving a man who had fallen off a jet ski.

Upon arrival, Wildlife and Parks Officers, Russell County Sheriff's Deputies and Russell County EMS found a vomiting 22-year-old Hays man on another boat near Hell Creek boat ramp.

Ohl said it's unknown exactly what happened to cause the man to fall off the jet ski, but the other boat picked him up quickly and he was also wearing a life jacket. He did not drown.

Alcohol was not involved according to Ohl.

The man's name was not released.

Man pulled from Long Beach water dies; 2 others safe

    http://longisland.news12.com/news/ma...afe-1.12240164

LONG BEACH - Rescuers pulled two men from the water in Long Beach Monday, but one of them didn't survive, officials say. A third man made it out of the water on his own.

A Long Beach city spokesman says they were taken out of the water near Edwards Boulevard at around 6:20 p.m.

Two of the men were rushed to the hospital. Police say a 26-year-old Brooklyn man was pronounced dead there. The other is expected to be OK.

Authorities did not immediately identify the victims.

Paul Gillespie, head of the Long Beach Lifeguards, says no one is supposed to be in the water after the guards go off duty at 6 p.m. He also warned that approaching storms from the south and west are making the water particularly rough.

Less than an hour later, a Jet Ski accident under the Long Island Rail Road bridge near Reynolds Channel and Magnolia Boulevard sent two people into the water, according to the fire department.

Officials say both were taken to the Long Beach Emergency Room in critical condition -- one in "respiratory distress" and the other undergoing cardiac arrest.

The Long Beach Fire Department says the Jet Ski struck a cement stanchion at the bridge and sent both passengers overboard. A pair of good Samaritans brought one of them to shore on a separate vehicle, and the fire department used its rescue ski to retrieve the other.

Two Minors Hurt After Jet Ski Incident in Lackawanna County

    http://wnep.com/2016/08/30/two-minor...awanna-county/

SCOTT TOWNSHIP -- Two minors are being treated at Geisinger Medical Center near Danville for injuries suffered at a lake in Lackawanna County over the weekend.

The Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission tells us a man on a jet ski was riding too close to a floating dock at Chapman Lake near Montdale. A wave from the jet ski caused the dock to bob, and somehow, the two minors were injured.

There is no word on their names or conditions.

The fish and boat commission has not determined if charges will be filed against the jet ski operator.
