Doesn't sound like it's going to have a long life.

If I was you, I would disconnect the drive shaft and run it. That "tinny rattle" sound could be in the pump. Hoping you have not pulled the engine yet.

It already was. I was just about to remove the coupler. The sound of the impeller hitting the wear ring is much more scratchy and consistent. Motor is still In it, but not for much longer

    Re: ts77r hole in piston

Further investigation reveals a thrown rod bearing. By catching a piston half way threw the compression stroke I used my hand to slightly rotate/shake the crank back and forth. I was able to mimic the slapping/knocking noise on one piston. to lazy/ just don't care anymore to pull the plugs and see which cylinder it is. Motor will be coming out next weekend and ski sold. Any one interested in the ski or engine pm me. Brand New pump, aftermarket impeller (can't remember the brand), newer starter, brand new nip sponsons, lots more I just can't remember. Ski is in the southern twincites. I have spent to much money to continue this project.

Here are the diagrams from a 1999. Mine is a 98 TSL. Notice the anti-siphon valve I have sketched on that page. It is in the boat, but not indicated on that diagram.TS L inlet.jpgTS R inlet.jpgTS engine.jpgTS exhaust.jpg

    Good Luck,

    Re: ts77r hole in piston

    Thanks John
The TS77r has a resonator in the exhaust system. Just after the muffler/water box. It has a water hose nipple but mine is plugged , not attached to anything. I can see it gets really hot and should have water attached. I just cannot figure out where the hose should come from.

So mine is a little different than the pictures you have shown.

The diagrams above are for TS770, 770L, 770R from the 1999 service manual.
Here are the other diagrams included in that manual; 900L, 1100R and 1100Li.
Each on is a bit different, maybe one is similar to yours.

Yours sounds like it might be like the 900L

What year is yours? You asked for a 98 so I just need to clarify. The 99 tsrs have a dual water box set up for exhaust noise so the cooling hoses are a little different.

    Re: ts77r hole in piston

I believe it is a 98. It is possible the parts inside have been changed out over the years, so it may not be stock.
I does have one water box and just after that there is a resonator. that has a water nipple on it but is not connected.
