js550, low voltage from ebox, cant jump the starter

Im having difficulty getting my js550 to start.
When i hit the start button, it either clicks or clicks then humms but nothing turns..

    *battery volts: 12v
*ebox solinoid, at the prong going to the starter: .9v
*i jumped the relay prongs on the ebox: starter doesn't do a thing
*i took the ebox apart: looks immaculate
*the click sound is coming from the ebox, at the starter relay or the stop relay.
*being that i cant jump the starter AND im only reading .9v from the ebox to the starter, i wanted to be sure i have good ground from the battery: i ran jumper cables directly from the negative to a solid-ground on the engine with no luck...

The impeller is free of debres and the driveshaft turns by hand... any help? Thanks

Something wired wrong, or bad starter. When did it last start?

So you can't jump the starter straight across? If it started fine before and now doesn't work it's unlikely it's bad wiring. Switch out the starters and see if that doesn't the trick

You could have several items that are bad. Your battery is the #1 suspect here. Get it load tested at an auto parts store. As for that starter, try jumping it with jumper cables to your car/truck battery.

You guys rock... I should have known to check it but I jumped it with my truck and everything turns. The battery is gone.. I didn't have much time to Tinker but I'm pretty sure I can get it running. Big thanks everyone

    Well poo!

I just wanted to see the thing crank. But after the excitement wore off i realized there was not much power behind the starter.

    *i installed a good battery, at 12v
*i tested the output terminal from ebox-starter but off the solinoid terminal coming directly off the ebox it reads 6v when the start button is pressed. Shouldn't the thing send the starter 12v?
*i hooked the OHM meter to the output prong from the ebox, and the other end on the dbox case itself, on a patch that is missing paint. The meter read 0 resistance.... doesn't this imply the ebox is shorting out? Shouldnt there be 100% resistance between a positive terminal and (what i would believe to be) a grounded ebox case?

    Thanks again

Yes it should be almost exactly the same as battery voltage.

Yes, it should show very high resistance. The usual culprit on this are missing plastic washers on the solenoid posts, broken washers, or incorrectly installed. The white plastic washers are what separate the posts from the ebox case. The problem could also be the starter positive terminal grounding to the starter case.

Re: js550, low voltage from ebox, cant jump the starter

Well i just checked another few skis i have, another js550 being one of them

    The other skis have
*0 resistance between any hot and negative, including the solinoid terminals/ebox/battery and so on....
*there was 0 resistance between both terminals coming off the ebox as well. BUT the one im working has lots of resistance between the two solinoid prongs- which leads me to believe something came undone or a part went out somewhere in the ebox... any ideas?

Do resistance checks with the battery disconnected. You are measuring something incorrectly. The large solenoid prongs should have infinite resistance between them with the battery disconnected (otherwise it will apply power to the starter with a closed or partially closed circuit and will drain the battery).
