Re: When did SBT start using Chinese bearings in their cranks/CBs etc?

there are no American bearings anymore except ceramic and other exotics.

They rods are junk, but for the price of a reman average Joe hammer thumb can't go wrong.

Re: When did SBT start using Chinese bearings in their cranks/CBs etc?

I've worked for two major bearing manufacturers over the years (NTN and NMB) and both manufactured bearings in the USA, Canada, Singapore, Thailand, China and Japan.

All of their bearings were the same high quality no matter the manufacturing location. The quality control, manufacturing processes and raw materials are what matters.

Stick with quality bearing manufacturers (NSK, NTN, NMB, Timken, ***, INA, etc...) and you will be fine. Go with an unknown manufacturer making product in China from junk steel and I guarantee you will have issues in a high speed, high load application.

I'm not sure who SBT sources their bearings from so this is in no way a comment on their product or quality.

    Hope this helps.

SBT's 787 cranks sure do take some punishment. Mine sees 7k rpms quite often with no failure. My guess is they use quality bearings otherwise would be hearing about failures.

My SBT 650 crank is still holding strong in my PJS 800 race motor.

Hmm, seems wrong for sbt and race engine to be mentioned in the same breath, race engines need constant rebuilding I thought, yz 450 needs crank pulled and inspected constantly if raced, actually raced and banging off the limiter, replaced halfway through the season at the least. Prob less load on a jet tho

Have done around 10 races on it and many hours of rec riding. This will be its third season. I know of others running SBT cranks as well. Also, it is a race motor so im not expecting to get 10 years out of it, I was actually planning on replacing it yearly but havent had the need yet. Also a 4 stroke dirtbike motor sees a lot more abuse than a ski motor.

Tru, any bike I guess loads way harder, 2t 250s have a similar tear down scdl, it's almost constant.
