    Still Standin's Bulldog 550

    Hi guys,

Been gathering parts for last few months and will be assembling everything overthe next several weeks to have this ski ready for the summer. In the meantime Ithought I would document everything here.

Not my first build, but is my first build thread so bear with me. Advice anddiscussion are very welcome!!!

So first off my history with this ski. In summer 2014 I drove over to Detroitand picked up this 1988 JS 550 as a bare hull. Someone in the ski'shistory made some extensive modificationsto the hull taking it far from its original configuration. (I do not know whodid all the mods to the hull…hopefully he is on PWCToday and will chime in that would be really cool.)

The most appealing part to me was the larger 140mm pump tunnel as I lovethe JS hull and have a "traditional" conversion ski already thatis a lot of fun. That said I'm a big guy and the 140mm pump on my X2 and 750sxhave a much easier time yanking me out of the water.

So back in summer 2014 I added a pump/pole/re-did the turf and got the skiready to run. I then swapped my 650 engine from my other conversion ski in thishull and rode it for a total of 15mins or so before it over heated due to apinched cooling line. The engine was pulled and put back in my other conversionski where it has remained. So this ski has remained engineless for a while now.

So this brings us up to date:

The current Mods/Parts list: (Most of which is still waiting to be installed)
    Hull:
    · 650 pump tunnel swapped in
    · Rockered Nose
    · Footholds
    · Tubbies
    · External gas fill blocked off
    · Rear Exhaust added
    · Shortened 6 inches
    · Tray Sides cut down
    ·
    Engine/Exhaust:
    · 93SX 750 small pin with fresh top end @ .5over. New crank seals and gaskets all the way through
    · Kawasaki Green head from a SS-XI
    · Dual Keihin 40mm carbs
    · Tau Ceti Tornado Filters
    · ebox from an 750 SS-XI with MSD plug caps
    · 650sx diverter manifold
    · PJS 3 piece pipe
    · Supertrapp waterbox

    Pump:
    · Stock 650 Pump (will be tapped for dualcooling)
    · 80mm Reduction nozzle of a 750
    · Skat Trak big hub C-75 Swirl 9/17

    Handling/SteeringMods:
    · RCJS Tri- Scoop intake grate
    · Stock 650 rideplate (to start)
    · Handle pole bracket moved 2-3 inchesforward
    · Custom built aluminum handle pole -4inches. (May cut it down more after some ride time)
    · UMI 750sx quick steer with billet clamps
    · Blowsion 28inch wide straight bars
    · ODI Rouge grips with ¾ flange

Oh and to address the name “Bulldog” The front end of theski always reminded me of the bottom jaw on a English Bulldog haha.

Couple of pics showing the difference between the small hub Skat 9/17 and the Big hub swirl 9/17 I will be running.

I should also mention that the pump is set back in order to accommodate the longer nose on the 750/800 style impellers.

Looking forward to riding this ski with some serious powah. And seriously jelous over those mint 3 jet Keihins you've got there.

I was there when we first got this ski to run with that first 750 and had teething issues with a serious lack of power. I remember how shocked you were when the 650 was in it, and it actually yanked you out of the water. Watching from shore it was like the entire ski popped out of the water, easily. When you came in I remember how shook up you were because it was so unexpected. So I'm really interested how the bulldog will do! And it'll be so good to have a hull tunnel swap to compare to my Rhaas kit in pretty red.

Also I'm really interested to see how the 750sx cylinder feels in this ski. A small kart tank would also be fun, get us closer to back flipping this sucker!

Absolutely! I was very impressed with the bottom end power with a single carb 650 and small hub in it. I am beyond excited to try it with a twin carb 750 and Swirl impeller.

The carbs will be even better after you go through them Vetteman! they will be on there way to you at noon.

    Re: Still Standin's Bulldog 550

Cut a stainless bracket to mount the 750 Ebox on. It bolts to the stock 550 ebox location I used thick nylon bushings to take up the space behind it.
    image32435365.JPG

Also gutted the SS-XI ebox of everything except the essential wiring. lots of extra wires in there I'm assuming for the gas gauge, reverse, speedo and trim. (Still need to attach the new MSD plug caps.)

Nice bracketry! Does it clear the hood by much?
