    Wink Jet Ski Noobe

    Hey guys and girls,

I am about to purchase my first SeaDoo RX (exciting times) I was wondering if you have some advice on fuel oils and general maintenance to keep the ski in good form...

    Cheers

    Stace

Hello Stace. Welcome to the site.

Is your RX a 2 stroke, or 4 stroke engine? Is it super charged?

    Hey ya Joey,

Its a 2001 2 stroke RX. The guy I purchased it off told me to run only Sea Doo oil in it, which I am more than happy to do, and a little research has told me only to run premium fuel.

What I do know is, to flush it out after each use by connecting the garden hose to the tube at the back, my noobe question to that is... do I also need to run the hose if I start the ski out of water at home?

    Cheers

It can start and run for about 30 seconds, or until the block is to hot to touch for 5 seconds. But if your going to run it for a little while, use the hose. And remember the sequence; start ski, the turn on water, low pressure. Stop water, blip throttle 2-3 times and turn off ski. NEVER RUN WATER WITH SKI OFF.

    Hello again Stace.

If you do run your ski on a hose, do not do it too long, as you can burn up / damage your carbon ring, where the shaft comes through the hull. Running on the hose is for "flushing" the cooling system. You NEED to do this if you run in salt water.

I am an Amsoil Dealer here, and we sell, and use that in SeaDoo's. Your RX has a 951 engine with exhaust valves. I tell my local customers it is important to pick an oil that is easy for you to get, and stick with one brand / type. Do not mix oils. With your exhaust valves you need an oil rated API / TC for the valves.

I am not sure what you have for fuel in your region. Here we have ethanol available, and I strongly recommend staying away from that. It is corrosive, and is causing issues with internal carburetor parts. (good for me for service).

Your SeaDoo also has oil in the Jet pump that needs to be changed once a season. We do it at the end of the year.

I would get a shop manual for your particular machine. It will have all you need to know for routine maintenance.

    Enjoy
