    Re: X4 - 1100 Build

I'm just thinking a 951 drops into any 787 X4 hull with just a new front mount and uses the 787 electronics and driveshaft. The kawi needs either a 720 X4 hull or a complete gut, adapter plate, kawi motor/ebox, driveshaft adapted, and.....? You can't compare a lightened X4 to an XPL. What the XPL loses in power to weight it makes up for by tracking in the chop. Either way it's dope to see the X4 live on in all of these variants. I swear it will be on the water for the 20 years.

Put the same horsepower in a xp and an xpl the xpl will kill it in closed course as the xps just bounce.I raced them both and chalk and cheese when comparing them

    Re: X4 - 1100 Build

No doubt the XPl is a better closed course ski, but we don't race anymore and the X4 is still a lot more fun. We build skis to go play at the lake. Fast, you are right, the 951 is an easier build for sure. Justin and I are just lucky to have our buddy Fro who likes a fiberglass challenge.

Surf, I'm going to be trying your water injection mod on my white pipe on my XPl hopefully in the next week or so. Interested in seeing how much more low end grunt it produces.

More water into the pipe even at idle the better as long as it shuts off at 5500rpm

Were you using a fan sprayer or just an open fitting?

Ski should have a few more mph when rpm is where it needs to be and final tuning is done. But, top end isnt what we shoot for, we just want hole shot and hook up.

Very impressive to turn a 16/23 thru an 85 mm nozzle 7580 rpm-- this takes about 170 hp. What made the 50 hp difference from the stocker setup and still survive on pump gas? The skat 148s are very efficient with the 82/85 rings.

951s can hit off the bottom, but if you are going off the online recipes that is the problem. PM me if you (or anyone else) are ever in Michigan and want a demo.

    Re: X4 - 1100 Build

951s can hit off the bottom for sure. They just take more work. The 1100s set up for open spec are in the 150-155hp range, but they make way more torque than a twin. People get so caught up in hp #s when torque is more important, especially down low. Even the fully decked out open class 1100s only make around 185hp. (single pipe) Again, not hp motors, torque motors. It wouldn't surprise me if a 951 in Justin's hull wouldn't have more top end, but to get the same kind of 'hit' the triple has, you'd need to have more than a limited set up and more than likely, race gas. There is a reason why everyone switched to the 1100 platform in ski class.

    Re: X4 - 1100 Build

Judge has dyno'd all of them. According to him, the 1100 with nothing more than a timing advance and dried out exhaust is almost 15-18hp over stock. (this is why racers don't use the coffman's exhaust on the 1100s, it makes next to no additional power over a properly set up stock exhaust) Add reeds, compression and carbs and you can pick up 5-8 more depending on how high you want to go with compression. We refuse to run race gas, so we stick to 165 and below. Even that is a little high in a runabout that can be loaded in the turn, which can cause detonation. That's why we aim to run higher rpms.
