    jdpilot-shuttlecraft restoration. sand bar suport vehicle/party barge

    official build thread. superchickens and jetmates are silly. enter the alpha ski of party barges. after years of looking, i finally found a shuttlecraft equipped with the rails for a waverunner 3. purchased from an awesome member on this site. the plan; new stereo, lights, electric bilges, all new vinyl, new rub rail, new bimini, new sundeck. this will be a blast next season at my sand bar spot. first steps are to tune the wr3 and buff the hull of the shuttle. .

    the genesis of this ski;

    Progress. Decided to tune the wr3 that came with her as it didn't idle on its own. Immediately noticed the return line and fuel inlet line were not only swapped to incorrect ports, but fuel filter was in the outlet line, swapped them over, took the carb off for a good cleaning as I have spare parts for the carb from my own wr3. Carb was filthy inside. Varnish and even traces of water and some particles from running on a line with no filter. Buttoned it back up and it runs amazing!!!!! Smooth idle and impressive throttle response. I actually think it is more responsive than my other wr3. Maybe it's the higher compression as she's running 160 in each, very healthy (my sbt rebuild pushes 145), or maybe it's that she's currently on 50:1 from previous owner. my fleet is running 40:1, either way I'm happy. This is a big plus as I didn't really care if I could salvage the ski, as I would have used my pristine wr3. But, now that she runs, I'll use the wr3 that came with her as the tug boat for it until she pops, which will likely be never as the 6m6 from my experience is super reliable.

    Now on to a test run on the water before the snow flies to be sure the whole thing floats and operates properly before I start dumping labor and cash in her.

    Re: jdpilot-shuttlecraft restoration. sand bar suport vehicle/party barge

    So I've been trying to figure out the easiest way to bring a stand up to the lake on days I tow the Shuttlecraft instead of my triple trailer. Tongue bunks aren't an option as the trailer the craft is in has no real estate. Thought of a hitch hauler between trailer and truck, but questionable tongue weight and having to bring the beach cart with me could be a pain. So I found this ski ramp. Perfect! It's on its way from Jersey! The way I look at it after the craft slides off the trailer in to the water, I'll set one end of the Ramp on tail gate, the other will set on the rear bunks of trailer (In water) and slide the second vessel out of truck bed. Done and done. Load up in reverse order. Nice vintage ramp from the 90s.Here:

    Nope. But from I read they handle like crap and putter slow. Which I'm fine with. The lake I will use this at I unload, go a quarter mile down a no wake zone. At the end of the no wake is the sandbar. So the boat will never even attempt to go above no wake putter speed as that's where she will be confined when connected as one vessel, once at the sand bar the waverunner will be detached. So should suit my purpose perfectly.

    I drove one with a 1100 Venture & it barely moved 20 mph tops & was working the motor hard.

    Cant imagine a 650 WR III

    Yeah, this will be idled to a sand bar and anchored. So my expectation of performance is super low going into this. I plan to use it for what it was designed. Shuttle out anchor and be done

    Something was terribly wrong with it. A customer of mine has one with a '95 SPX pushing it and it gets on plane pretty good and will GPS 38mph with my wife and adult size son on board. After I fixed it last time we went out for a lake test-n-tune and went fishing with it. the power trim I feel is a big help with those things.
