Re: Smoke on the Water - Water Chamber Melted

One of mine had a giant salt crystal blocking the inlet to the tiny rubber hose on the little electrode housing on the exhaust manifold. That is the source of cooling water.

Re: Smoke on the Water - Water Chamber Melted

    Hi,
only had time today to take it apart.

The mister hole was blocked and i could see a lot a "debris" inside the water box.
    It looks like salt.
I always flush the ski after ridding in salt water. I guess that salt piled there all over the years.

    Anyone's looked like this?

    take a look:

The mister hole can block with sand/shells/rocks also. Be sure to pull the anode housing with the small rubber tube on the exhaust manifold since mine had a huge salt crystal in it. The best flush after a saltwater ride is to leave it strapped to the trailer and back it into a fresh water boat ramp and run the engine for a few minutes while still on the trailer.

Items 5,6,7 is the anode, cover and gasket to remove to check for salt crystals. It would be a good time to replace the zinc anode too.
They also have good prices, along with Ron Ayers Honda.

    Thanks JR,
It was ok. I had replaced that anode 2 years ago.

I cleaned everything, including inside the water box, and i guess now everything is ok.
    Just need a new gasket

Re: Smoke on the Water - Water Chamber Melted

    It was not.
Burned again last saturday after a few small rides. About 4/5h Total

I was still checking temperature once in a while. It was looking ok.
Saturday after 20/30 miles i checked the temperature and it was ok. Had a chat with same friends and went back to the docks 15miles.
Just when i was arriving the ski died at idle. Started it again and it was terrible at low RPM. Looked to the back and there was too much smoke.
Opened the engine compartment and it was smoking again.

So... Looks like i havenīt found the cause yet.

One other issue. The ski seems to make more white smoke now.
I really donīt have a way to compare it to before the first burnout.
Donīt know if its from the engine itself or the rubber parts in the exaust system.

    Must think about this carefully.
    Need your help.

you don't need to ride and burn up elbows to know if you still have a problem. With everything connect you know with a good elbo and hose connected. When you run it on the hose you should be getting plenty of water coming out of the exhaust above the pump where it exits the ski. If you not getting water coming out then you still have a problem.... If your not getting water out the exhaust let us know well

Re: Smoke on the Water - Water Chamber Melted

Everything was working fine with the hose connected. I always check before going to the water since the second melt down.

I even check several times in the water. I touch the Elbow for a few seconds to see if the temperature is ok.

Something is clogging the mister hole. I am wondering if the hose between the Muffler and the waterbox is tearing apart and causing this (18325-HW1-670).
Or even the hose from the water box to the elbo 18351-HW1-670

Otherwise what is blocking comes from the engine or from the water cooling system before the muffler.

Is enough water getting into the Muffler?
I think so, when the mister hole is working everything seems cool.

i always have water coming out from the pisser.

In a couple of days i will have time to disassemble the ski and i will try to understand what kind of debris is clogging the mister hole.

Re: Smoke on the Water - Water Chamber Melted

Took it out. No surprise, the mister hole was plugged. But it got free really easy. Even could not see well what was clogging it. Looked like small pieces of something black like plastic.

The water box had just a little of water and it was very dirty. I had cleaned it up well a while ago. The water had something black on it and even some small pieces of something black floating.
Took two of those pieces out and they looked as plastic.
The hose between the muffler body and water box was also decomposing a little. But those small pieces looked like plastic and floated. So i guess those were not rubber from the hose.

The exhaust pipe from the turbo, that connects to the muffler was also a little bit dirty.

Where is that debris coming? probably not from the water system. Not from the Elbow because plastic donīt travel against the wind.
So it may be coming from the engine itself?????
I told you the ski was white smoking more than before the first problem. When i started it on the water after the first burn out it really smoked a lot in the beginning. Could it be the plastic?
    Was it plastic?

i may have made a mistake after the first incident.
In the first time the ski died it happened because it had a lot of smoke inside. All that smoke had been in a loop for a while so a lot of it got into the engine.
That smoke originated in the melted elbow.
Can the engine being slowing cleaning up inside sending that smoke (plastic) away?
My mistake was not changing the oil. As the oil was almost new and i was testing the ski i wanted to wait a little before changing the oil.

is it possible that the plastic is coming from the engine or its just nonsense?

Should i change the oil one or two times with cheap oil to help cleaning the engine and only then have good oil inside?
The oil looks normal (no water sight) but it may be really dirty from that smoke.

well, any idea. Donīt want to keep burning elbows every 2/4 hours.
