    Hello...My 1998 Yamaha GP1200 Waverunner won't do anything?

It was running fine at the lake and then it quit and won't do anything. I rowed in and put a new battery in. Still nothing. Reset code. You can put code in, and the digital start word comes on for a moment with beeps and red warning light for a couple of seconds. Then I press the start button and nothing. No hum, click or anything at all. I get power from the battery to the to the solenoid switch on one side only. If I disconnect the power cable from the solenoid, and put power directly to starter, it still won’t crank. I thought that it should? Right?? Need help, Jonathon7.

Could it be the safety kill switch? Maybe try pulling up on it a little more and see it it'll try to do something.

I actually took the safety kill switch apart and put a test light to each of the contacts and there was no power to any of them. The interior of the switch looks like new. It seems as if the power stops at the solenoid. I am still wondering if you put power on the opposite post (not the battery side) of the solenoid switch, should the starter crank or at the very least hum or click?

I actually watched this video a couple of days ago. The guys in the film were working on a 650 and I don’t know if it has the digital gauges on it. The GP1200 had the main wire go to the gauges and then to the safety kill switch on the handle bars. The 650 appeared to have the main wire going directly to the safety kill switch. I am not sure if the code on the 1200 is not allowing the power to make it to the switch or if the gauge cluster has a problem. To start the 1200, I press the mode button for 3 seconds, the word CODE appears. Then I enter the 4 digit code. I press the mode button again the word START appears along with the RED warning light and they both displays in a split second . I immediately press the green start button and nothing.

Carefully touch a screwdriver across the two large posts on the starter solenoid and see if the starter turns over. Jumping those two will connect the battery directly to the starter.
It takes a big man to admit when he's wrong. I am not a big man.
