Do you need a permit to launch at Pt Lookout?
    Is it for residents only?

            Re: Long Island Riders?

Hey guys I just joined this forum. Bought a 2014 Waverunner VX deluxe two weeks ago (just in time for the 4th weekend) and live in Nassau county.

I have two favorite places to launch, one is Port Washington bar beach for the North Shore, and Point Lookout for the South Shore.

I had to get a permit for Port Washington ($65 resident) that's good for unlimited launches and it's equipped with a hose/cleaning area. It's quiet and well maintained. They also sell non-resident season passes or single launches.
It's great because you're out from 5mph in no time and the bay is usually flat and calm.

Point Lookout is totally free to anyone (resident and non-resident) but there is no wash down area or hose. Plus it's a longer ride out through the 5mph zone.

I have 3 trips of interest that I would like to accomplish this summer. Would love to find others with similar interest to ride together:

-Crossing the LI Sound to CT at multiple places (already done)
-Explore Gardiners Island (waters can be rough)
-Circle the Statue of Liberty. Looking for boat ramps in Brooklyn to launch.

              Re: Long Island Riders?

              Hi soundshark,

i am in massapequa and sold my boat last year...i am looking at the yamaha vx as well.
Which dealer did you purchase it from. believe it or not i have not yet ever ridden at jet ski (i am 64 years old) and am thinking about trying it out and possibly rigging for fishing in channels/bays/etc.

              appreciate any info/help/hints....

              thanks john

                Re: Long Island Riders?

I ended up buying it in Stamford, CT because they had the best price:

                Stamford Motorsports
                177 Greenwich Ave
                Stamford, CT 06902

The other dealer that I liked was this below; they are down on the LI south shore, it's actually a marina. Not a fancy showroom and basically you'll be paying sticker, but the guy was down to earth and straight forward. It seemed like a good place to service it as well.

                WHALENECK ENTERPRISES, INC.
                3000 WHALENECK DR
                MERRICK, NY 11566-5308

I bought my vx cruiser at LI kawasaki in Hicksville. Ask for Zeus. Great guy and will give you a nice deal!

Ha! I met Zeus. His price was in line with the marina in Merrick.

Hey John don't feel bad, I'm 60. Just picked up a 2014 Yam FX SHO. This is my second ski. Add it to my Road King, 23 Regulator, and lifted Wrangler and my toy chest keeps getting bigger.
Got the $$$ for toys now, but the body doesn't heal as fast.
If you're gonna use the ski for fishing, mount some form of GPS on it. I mounted a Garmin Montana with Blue Chart maps. Not going for a fish finder cause my boat is my main fishing machine.

Sure, I'll be out. Pt Lookout if the weather is limiting. Look for me on the gray waverunner. I wear a black/red wetsuit and vest, and probably a white baseball hat. If you see me just flag me down.

If the weather looks good for both days I might try the Statue of Liberty tour and I want to launch from closer.

I'll be out on a bright green sea doo, hard to miss.
