    Kawasaki Zxi 1100 starter replacement

To help anyone questioning whether or not a starter can be replaced WITHOUT removing engine or exhaust, the answer is YES! I just replaced my starter recently without removing anything but the starter itself. It can be done. Take off neg connection from starter, remove two rearward bolts holding starter onto engine block....now for the fun part...pulling the starter out of the forward hole that it is inserted into. The starter housing has two rubber orings on it where it inserts into front housing. ...
It gets stuck and tough to pull out. I improvised a pry tool by taping a flathead bolt onto a short screwdriver, lodged the bolt head between the starter housing and forward engine housing just above where the starter inserts into the hole. Pry back and forth.. Starter comes right out! Disconnect positive lead, pull old starter out. Oil orings on new starter and slide right in! Done!
