Police Charge Jet Ski Operator After Inner Tube Crash
A day on a lake turns dangerous when a juvenile female crashed into a dock.
Lance Jones was pulling two girls on Loon Lake in Lake Crystal when the inner tube they were on crashed into a dock, injuring one of them severely.
Blue Earth County Chief Deputy Mike Maurer says, "At some point the tube swung outside of the wake of the jet ski and struck the dock."
Jones of Amboy made his first appearance in Blue Earth County court today.
The incident happened last Friday.
According to the Criminal Compliant, Jones fled the scene before the law enforcement and medical officials arrived.
Maurer says, "At the time of the incident, the JV female was airlifted to Mayo Hospital systems and listed in critical condition."
Blue Earth County Sheriff called in the Martin County K–9 unit to assist in the search.
Jones was found in a wooded area when a K–9 was used to apprehend him.
He faces six misdemeanor counts including careless operation of watercraft, fleeing from officers and assaulting the police dog used in the apprehension.
Maurer says, "They get too aggressive with their boats, they get too aggressive with the people skiing behind them and accidents can happen."
Blue Earth County Sheriff Department advises caution as people head out onto the lakes, especially this 4th of July weekend.
Maurer says, "If they are pulling any type of individual, whether it be a wake boarder, skier, tuber, they need to have either a mirror or two people in the boat and to use extra caution."
The Blue Earth County Sheriff Department says Jones was not under the influence any narcotics or alcohol at the time of the incident.
