Re: Mr Legal vs Mr. Illegal

You can only slice a pie in so many slices and still give everyone a mouth full.. if the unskilled labor jobs are the pie and there's 100 pepole here and another 100 come next year the pie won't slice... then the 100 of illegals that have been here for a year and learned how to do skilled labor example "construction" from there frends in far soCAl. leave the area to find other work in CA so they go to a area with better pay and take jobs from others because they will do a $25-35 hour job for $10-20 and live 10 to a 2 bedroom apartment.
Then the guy who has lived in that town his whole life is out a $25-35 a hour job that pays for his family's life and he's screwed.

So the old argument that they do the jobs no one wants to do is null and void... just like a teenager that works at Mcdonolds they eventulay get better jobs. and what they need is to just let the jobs become open and some teenagers or seasonal employees do them.

entitlements with those it cuts down on the drive for pepole to have to work for $7-10 a hour its all bull****

But by closing the border to illegal invasion and cuting back on entitlements i think the problems would fix themselves...

Same reason we need Tariffs.. Yes stuff would cost more but people would also make more money... Problem is politicians don't care about the long term. All they care about is trying to look good now so they can get re-elected.

As long as we are a blue "progressive" state this will never happen. The dems won't chance losing that Hispanic vote...

Re: Mr Legal vs Mr. Illegal

here's a fact: when times were tough for construction up here in michigan, mainly between 2003-2009 ish, i kept a job by working for mexicans. i had to learn to speak spanish, and was paid cash, but it paid the bills. now for the ****ty part, i got to know my boss and coworkers well. they were great, family oriented people. BUT. my bosses sister owned one little mexican store in utica michigan with a western union. in 2005 alone, 5.5 MILLION was sent to mexico, through that one store. one western union, in one city, in one state. do the math!

edit, i worked a proper framing job in florida from end of 2006-2009.

Re: Mr Legal vs Mr. Illegal

Here in my little town we have lot's of ag.

We have residents who are on the 'books' and seasonally many migrants who aren't.

The town is heavily populated in the north by Hispanic ag workers and is much more Caucasian to the south.

Similar to mattofalltrades story at comment #25, we've lost many quality jobs here over the last decade and a half, with an especially tough period for the construction trades since 2007.

My point is that this issue of cheap-migrant labor is NOT endemic to any single USA community; NOR to the USA itself. It is global, and it is tearing out the big middle socio-economic class.

Since this is a political thread, let me finish by saying that I don't believe either current party has our middle-class-backs in this. I don't know that we've been here before, other than the depression years, and I certainly don't know what gets us going again.

I do feel strongly that we need to get individuals on the payroll, into the tax base and create a level playing field for business to operate in rather than allowing illegal-cheap-migrant-labor to continue forcing this spiral-down effect on wages and prices.

I just don't feel like the middle-class has real representation in today's political mess...
