    Just got a FX-1

The title of the post pretty much says it all. I was looking for a 650 or 750 to pull apart for a 550 conversion and saw this for sale cheaper than what a marine wrecker wanted too sell me a kwaka motor and ebox.

So for $1400 including the trailer I got a great deal. Usually things over here in Australia cost an arm and leg more than state-side but this time I got a win!

Can't really tell you much about it other than it starts ok, it has a mikuni carby that looks newer than the rest of the engine, and it has the choke cable still on the ski but a barbed fitting on the carby for a primer. The last owner didn't have it for very long, he looked more like of a sit down kinda guy so I don't know much of the ski's history.

I'm kinda running blind with Yamaha after learning the kwaka stuff with an il-fated 550 and a strong running 650SX. I know the standard advice was replace the crankshaft seals before it leans out but is that also applicable to Yamaha? I'm guessing it is given that it's a twenty year old seal.

For the moment it's going to be get a primer, ride it, then look at front and rear footholds and possibly use the set of the Blowsion universal tubbies that I had for the conversion ski. As you could guess the conversion ski is pretty much out of the window now unless I can find a 750 donor ski for under $1000.

Any comments or input would be appreciated.

Of course here are the photos:

Yes, forget the conversion, spend that $ on a B pipe and prop!
"needs carb work" is a classic excuse for I don't know wtf is wrong!

A Factory Pipe, ADA Girdled head, MSD Ignition Enhancer, Dual 38's and a decent impeller and these things rip!! I never rode mine in stock form, but I have read they are plenty fast and quick in stock form as well.. I look forward to following this thread and reading your riding impression.

Thanks guys - looking forward to getting it on the water. As for ride impressions I can only compare it to a 650SX with the mods out of this thread http://www.pwctoday.com/showthread.php?t=157734 so it's not really and apple with apples comparison. The 650 was great fun too ride so I'm really looking forward to seeing what the hype with a FX-1 is all about.

You are in for one hell of a treat if all you have to compare it to is a Turd Ski! It has me literally LOL.

Its going to have a grip of more balls and is going to seem very squirely compared to 650SX turd. Get wet, have fun!
