Replace Starter - Yamaha WaveRunner VX 110 sport

    First post people,
    so be kind - please.

As my signature mentioned I'm owner of two WaveRunner's - one of them has a bad starter, thought the relay was broken first but I have narrowed it down to the starter. Thought of engine problem but I opened the jet-intake to turn the engine (without plugs).. Anyways, heard someone recommend taking the engine out, others has recommended me taking the exhaust out first to get better access.
What's your easiest way to this operation?

I'm aware that the starter has 2x 12mm bolts which is about it. I can easily access them with my hand. Haven't begin yet since the starter are on its way from UK.

    Thanks,

Starter is easier to remove on vx than fx, no need to remove anything, only the 2 rear bolts and wire.

Sometimes the most difficult is to slide the starter front end off the block because of the corrosion

    Ok. Will write that down.
Seems like I'm not getting the starter before next Friday,
Is there any way to try repair the old starter with a temp fix? Some has told me to bang it carefully with a wrench etc......... Do you have any tip?

install it in a vise on the workbench , bring a battery next, connect jumper cables to the ground and hot side and you will see, if it start to spin very fast instantly with a lot of force, it is good, if just spark on wire , start slow, weak or so, then trash.
if it does not work properly, take a small hammer or a wrench and lightly bang the rear side of the starter, if it works better than you know the brushes are used or simply stuck in their guides , sometimes a very good clean up is enough, I saved dozens of em like that.
I did replaced one yesterday, it has moisture intrusion, all rusted inside, I still have it, will try to take pictures to show you.
if it does not work , take it apart if you can and you will see, most of the times the 2 long thin bolts are frozen in the front part and will snap.
    good luck

No doubt that taking out the starter from a VX sucks but after 2 hours with intens struggling I managed to do it. Took the starter apart straight away and it looks like this(see attachment). So Frankie, is there any hope or would you just wait for the new starter?
