usually on the seals, the lips with the springs are facing out to keep water out, bearing does not mater the way they go, they are symetrical, so yes on all what you said.
should not need any bilge pump after new mid shaft housing.

I figured but its piece of mind. Will run w/o engine on and I really ride in open water.
Did 100 mile run 2 week ago on my other VX

I never want to see all that water in there. Especially salt water...

Congrats on your fix. Right now I am still using Frenchy,s hose set up and it is doing and excellent job. My brother and I were out last Sunday and when I pulled over to check the oil he noticed that there was no water in my bilge. So I think I can get away with out fixing it until winter. Also my friend at Greater Yamaha told me that they are using a 2 part epoxy to do that job. But I forgot to ask him which one so the next time I see him I will ask him.

thanks for all the pics and info guys. Looks like a costly repair to pay a shop to do.

Is there something an owner should do to prevent a mid shaft leak?
Please excuse some of my replies, my English is not very good so I may misunderstand your question or my reply to your question may not make sense.

I see, thanks for the information! I do not ride in salt water and my vx110 is removed from the fresh water when I finish riding.

does the engine have to be running to notice a mid-shaft leak? or just sitting in the water you can see water coming in?
