Re: Riding out of amesbury on the merrimack

Lol thats kinda a personal question

I launch at the amesbury town boat ramp, its supposed to be amesbury residents only, but honestly I have never heard of anyone getting a ticket for being an out of towner,, but I live there, so I don't pay too much attention.. theres 3 marinas in amesbury.. larry's, mackenzies.. and davy jones i think out of the 3 only macks has their own ramp, all the rest launch from the public ramp... environmental police has been around a lot more lately, so make sure your sticker is up to date...

Re: Riding out of amesbury on the merrimack

Hey Oddball- The other day I went around the oceanside of Plum Island, and came into the Merrimac River. I got as far as Newburyport, before the bridge even, and was bored out of my mind in the NWZ. So i turned around and rode the backside of Plum Island back to Crane beach.

If I continued up river (which means I will have to put in up there, due to the intensely long NWZ in Newburyport), is there anything to keep in mind? Any unmarked hazards or issues to be aware of?

yeah its esentially no wake from amesbury to the mouth, I never go down river, no point, if you want to go outside of the channel, tides are very important, like where my dock is at. At low tide, you can't get any closer than about 100' as its about a foot deep at low tide and its unridable in spots outside of the channel until about 1.5-2hrs after low tide, then you can ride right to the dock.

Pending family obligations, I would be up for a ride up river or out to open water. Maybe Oddball would come and keep everyone off the rocks
