Re: Lake Columbia - Who's been there?

I work at the Columbia Plant (Lake Columbia). Just started a few years ago but the older guys still talk about watching a bunch of crazy kids ripping around on the lake in the middle of winter. They loved seeing them out there, gave them something fun to watch. They even used to aim the security cameras out there so they could watch from the control room inside the plant.

Right. I asked why they banned them and none seems to know. They think just because fishermen *****ed so much. If anyone was interested in trying to get back in I'm assuming our environmental guy would be the one to contact. Nate Sievers (608)742-0713

Its Alliant huh? My buddy Tward works at the garbage burner DT which is run by the same company.

Do you happen to know if the lake is property of the power plant?

Re: Lake Columbia - Who's been there?

The power plant cut a deal with the township of Dekorra to give them something out of the land acquisition as the city of Portage got all the tax dollars from the power plant being built on the land. The land was Dekorra's, so to keep them happy they gave them the access rights to the water and surrounding property for hunting and fishing. But the local sportsman phucked that up too, so they banded guns almost right away. I lived 2 miles down the railroad tracks in Poynette for years.

I started going to it in 1988 to ride mostly from Easter until the local lakes warmed up enough to ride. For years I would ride it on New Years Day so I could say I got the first ride of the year. Boy that was cold. Some spring weekends 30 guys would show, so cool to start the year off like that. Funny getting out of the water and climbing over snow banks to get in your truck..after Jetsking. I put the log jump in one year was that fun.

I Don't get it as we always rode on the other side of the no fishing markers. It's the island up to right if you Goggle Map it. The fishermen just don't think anybody else has the right to use a lake but them. By the way most people I know don't eat what they catch out-a that pond. Great Largemouth Bass fishing on the cold side.

What I need to do is get a hold of this guy and set up a meeting to discuss the separate use area for the PWC riders. We could very easily use the service drive to go right to the island and launch with out being by the a-holes fishing. As much as we cleaned that place up every time we used it they should have given us some consideration. The fisherman up there are not good keepers of the land.

Scott it sounds like you are saying the township "runs" the area? I wonder if they knew guys would stuff $5 bills into a box to use it for jetskiing it would be a good money maker. I bet if you put another box up for fisherman it would be half the income of the jetski box.
