    blown head gasket?

1996 daytona 770.I was flying down the river when all the sudden the jet ski quit pumping water. I was stupid and the motor got hot. I cleaned about 2 pounds of sand out of the screen the next day. I took it back out and know it pumps water fine put acts like its running on one cylinder. It will only go about 20mph and acts sluggish. i did a compression test. 135 on one cylinder and 95 on the other. any help would be appreciated.

You have to take the head off to investigate that "95" reading.

Replace the gasket with a new one and try another compression test. You might have found your problem.

I'd also keep an eye on those pistons. There's not a lot of wash on the tops indicating a lean mixture. Could be from getting too hot from lack of water, or something else.

thanks for the reply. my ski has always ran rich. so your correct about it not running lean. I hope this is the problem! Im not sure if this makes sense, but the 135 compression was on the piston without the little tear in the gasket.the 95 compression was on the good looking side of the gasket.

    Re: blown head gasket?

well, that didnt work.F! it is still doing same thing. the motor sounds good. It just pushes threw the water at 4.5 rpms and about 20mph. I met a guy at the boat ramp and he believed it was the wear ring is bad. I did clean about 2 pounds of sand out of it after it broke down. any ideas?
