Mike I appreciate that offer. This year it just wont work with all the responsibilities. I'm stretched as thin as I can be with my wife / 14 mo old as it is regarding riding. We still need to get you down our way too!

Re: 650 Wave Jammer Engine Swap and novice Freeride/ Freestyle ski

Awesome swap! I picked up a blue 88WJ last year from the original owner and I believe it has under 50hrs total on it, It had the original spark plugs in it when I got it (could see the paint over spray from the motor on them) which I left in and it runs flawlessly, under powered but man does it run smooth. Im leaving that WJ original but I picked up a yellow and red 91 WJ that I'll be 650 swapping since the 500 engine needs work and lets face it... the 650 engine is much more appealing. Thanks for all the info you've posted!! Would the stock WJ impeller be alright with the 650? I know its not ideal but for now will it get me by?

Wow nice very cool. No the stock impeller will not work. If you do the swap, do it right. Match the impeller to the engine. Else you will have a cavitating ski which is worse performing and less fun than it was stock with the 500 engine.

I have been asked this before on a variety of swaps. Cutting corners, especially on impellers, is bad news period and doesnt ever pay off. My buddy with the 16/19 is having issues now, as in mods aren't increasing his performance. He is going to repitch it over the winter. I dont recommend anything other than a Skat 17/20 from what I have seen so far. If I do any mods beyond where i am currently I would probably have a 18/21 on hand.

Reading back over my post, I meant to say would the stock 650LX impeller be ok to run? I tried finding a 16/19 and 17/20 but have had no luck. I mostly see 13/18 and 14/19.

Re: 650 Wave Jammer Engine Swap and novice Freeride/ Freestyle ski

Ah ok. Those will be definitely better but still it wont have good performance and I'd be worried about it cavitating. Remember those LX impellers are made for a ski which is like 400+ lbs, perhaps 450 with gas. The jammer is much smaller and needs a steeper pitch to compensate. If it had an axial flow pump instead of a mixed flow, this would be much less critical.

Just looked it up myself, it looks like the recommended Wave Jammer impellers are 13/16 and 14/17 for limited and mod engines respectively. I would definitely steer clear of those. For the 650LX, the recommended impellers are 16/19 and 17/20 for limited and mod. Those are what you need, 17/20 is right on the money and will grow with minor mods. That, and the Jet Dynamics intake grate, are the two items i paid for full price on the ski. They are worth it.
