Hold my beer and watch this...

So this will be my build thread for my X2 build. Don't expect quick progress, or professional how-to's since this is my first shot at fiberglass work.

Early this season I noticed my hull was completely split around the rear bond line, all the way across. I swapped my motor / pump into a spare hull I had, and decided this ski needed to be chopped up. It weighed noticeably more then my other hulls due to the amount of wet foam at the rear.

Here's a breakdown of what I'd like to accomplish:

    10-12" chop
    Move pump ~7" forward
    Relocate steering 5" backwards
    Relocate Fuel tank behind engine
Relocate Battery towards center of ski
    Flat Decked
    Rear exhaust, inline silencer
    Blaster Mod or NYNJA chamber

The goal of all this is to basically empty the front of the ski, condense the center of mass, and build something that's totally different then any current build.

I expect the ski to ride very nose high, be worthless in a straight line, and want to rotate while jumping (See where I'm going here?)

    Progress so far:

Top deck chopped off, ski completely de-foamed, pump section chopped out

I have gone mad, but what else was I going to do with a spare hull with a ton of wet foam! I've got cutting tools, and plenty of beer, so I've got that part covered.

Time to start ordering some materials. I'd like to use West System Epoxy. Anyone have any recommendations on what to order? I've never done any fiberglass work, but I've got a pretty good idea on the process. I also need to get my hands on some shorter driveshafts. I think I want to tailor the pump location to a 650SX shaft, but I need to pick one up before I decide.

Gonna be slow going, but it'll get done eventually.

It's probably too late since you cut the pump out, but it would probably be a lot easier to leave the pump where it is, switch to a 650sx drive shaft and just move the motor back. Aligning a pump is going to be a serious comitment.

If you're going to do all that work, how about switching to a Superjet pump. You can still run your Kawi motor if you use the Kawi couplers you can buy aftermarket. You're going to have to move the bulkhead anyway if you move the pump.

I'd think you might have the best results install a superjet pump in the stock location, move the motor back, and moditfy the top deck to accomidate the engine components. A -6 chop on a X2 is like a -4 chop on a superjet. -12 is pretty extreme.

I hate to step in on this build but you might want to rethink the minus 10-12 and moving the steering back 5
I just tested my -13 cut and I don't now if I am going to get the handle bars far enough forward and from a tail stand the only way to get up and going is with the trim down
I still need to do more testing and mods and relearn how to drive this x2 all over again

I thought about using a different pump, but I've got stacks of Kawasaki parts here. My whole plan here is to build something a little different. The way I'm moving the pump, I won't be touching the bulkhead, there's plenty of room to move it without cutting into the engine bay. Re-locating the engine back crossed my mind, but I'd rather remove the area vacated by the pump, then have extra empty space up front.

I'll keep that in mind Gnarly! I may end up with at least some custom work needed (Spray welding the bulkhead support area)

Thanks for the heads up Craig! I'd like to ride your ski sometime, where are you in ON? I think moving the pump will have a huge effect on the manners, but I really don't know for sure.
