1978 Js440 E-box in 1995 550sx

My friends ski that is a 1995 550sx has a bad e-box and I was wondering if I can use the e-box out of my 1978 js440?

Theoretically it will work but kind of a pain. If it's the one I'm thinking, it's a bigger box with different internal components. I could be wrong. There are some differences in wire colors though too which could be confusing. What is wrong with the 550sx box? probably easier to change a bad component.

I havent checked the inside of the box yet but It's not getting spark and we replaced the stator already. And last night when I plugged my 440 e-box in there was still no spark. Anyone have ideas of what this can be? I ran the volt meter across the stator and all tests came up good.
