    Rattle Can paint job

After getting some quotes on paint jobs around town I came to terms that I would do myself. Mostly because on my current situation I cannot afford it. I had done the following before on a friend's Jetski and he's going onto his third summer with no chips and no peel. I hope to get similar results.

    Steps:
    • Sand (320)
    • Primer
    • Base Coat (Krylon Cherry Red) 3 coats
    • Wet Sand (1500)
    • Clear Coat (Krylon) 3 coats
    • Wet Sand (1500)
    • Rubbing Compound
    • Polishing Compound

30 days before applying any wax

I tried pics in sun and shade to capture results.
I will add more pics soon with new custom decals

Never argue with an idiot, they will drag you down to their level then beat you with experience.

Nice job! Further proof that its all in the prep. I had to paint the nose of my ski last year and I followed similar steps, no one can ever tell the difference I always have to point it out to them.

Seadoo657X is right. Prep work is the secret and keep in mind that I am in no way a professional painter.
I should have added that I did give two days between primer, base and clear coat.

Yep, you can get decent paint for little money if you are willing to put some time in, especially in prep/sanding.

Here's one of our skis I did using the roll on Rustoleum method. At one point the bottom deck had a hole from the pipe rubbing. After glassing the hole I was able to just redo a small section of the paint and wet sand it to blend perfectly. Can't even tell up close.

Is there a product that can strip paint off the fiberglass without damaging the hull? The gentleman that I bought it from had already given it a paint job.

DelSol - I'm no expert in this field but I would avoid any chemicals as this may do damage. Why not sand or scrape if many layers?

I have sanded until my hand is about to fall off! haha. I'm afraid to use and electric sander because it may eat too much fiberglass. The paint on the ski has many scratches and imperfections and its very difficult to get them out.

How much of each material (cans of paint) did you and and how much did it cost you?
