    Bilge Pump staying on?

Recently my Yamaha 09 FX SHO broke down on the water and got towed in. the result was the bilge pump shorted something out, and i got a new bilge pump.

Question now is that i notice when i turn the engine off, the bilge pump (rear of watercraft) continues to make noise and i assume run for about 15 seconds or so. Is this regular? Is this normal? Do you think its another faulty bilge pump that will short it out and cause me to die in the water> thanks!

The pump will run for a short time after the ski is turned off.
