    Low Compression

I have a low compression reading on my ski of about 45/40 (88' js550). The ski runs but I know compression issue can lead to death! Where do I start to try and find my problems?

    head gasket?

bad rings? pistons? How do I tell?

Pull the head and see what the cylinders look like, can you still see cross hatching? Does the cylinders look worn out and scored up? Go from there and make a decision to hone and re-ring or bore it and new piston and rings.
