    PWC Rentals

Well I will be taking the plunge on August 23rd on the island of Oahu (Getting Married).

I have rented PWC before and usually the only ones for rent are the tamed down 3 seaters and you have to stay in the designated areas.

I have my Washington State Boaters ID card and was wondering if anyone has suggestions on rentals that may offer some faster sit-downs or even a stand-up, and allow you to go out into the waves?

Any input is appreciated, even if the answer is no surf riding and crappy VX110's are the only thing available.

I guess I will still marry her anyway!

    Re: PWC Rentals

Hawaii requires a PWC certificate before you can operate a non-rental PWC outside of designated rental zones. The certificate is acquired by attending either a one or two day course (one day for general certificate, two days for tow-in surfing certificate). Bottom line, you can't rent any PWCs here in this state and take them out in any waves. Isn't Hawaii great or what?

    Re: PWC Rentals

Well, I kinda figured that was the answer I was going to get. This is the way it was on Florida when I rented 7 years ago. Any rental places you would reccommend over others on the island of Oahu?

    Re: PWC Rentals

If you have your OWN ski here, you can do what you want, but if you're not "licensed" and you get stopped by the DLNR, you might be in a world of trouble.

As far as rentals go on Oahu, I really don't know since I don't use them. There are a couple of companies in Hawaii Kai (southeast corner of the island) and I think there might be one up in Haleiwa on the North Shore.

Thanks Paul. I do have my boater's education card for the State of Washington, now whether Hawaii recognizes it it another thing.

    Thanks again,

Hawaii won't accept a boater's card at all. Has to be the state's PWC-specific course.

You could always buy one and use it until you get caught (chances are, you won't) and if you're caught, just let them impound it. Mine is for sale BTW... FXHO, 55+ mph gps verified and manly. Full tank of gas in there too. If you don't get caught, sell it dirt-cheap right before you leave. I would be interested in buying it back.
