    Ocean Pro 550 Motor

    Ken,
My Ocean Pro 550 Cylinder is on it's way here, I have a Ocean Pro Head & Pipe to join the cylinder. I am in the process of purchasing a Ocean Pro 45* Intake Manifold. I was wondering if Ocean Pro was cutting windows into their pistons like the competition was? If so do you have any example of the windows that Ocean Pro would have cut into the pistons. Please let me know I am really looking forward to building this Ocean Pro Motor.

    Thank you,
    Ryan

There was an Ocean Pro pipe on Ebay a while back...only one I ever saw. It may still be there if you look good and hard.

im pretty sure they did have windows cut on the intake side piston skirt, as long as its a reed cylinder anyway.

Yes....windows can be cut into PP cylinder pistons. Not sure what it achieves but I have seen Bill Chapin do it. The purpose of windowed pistons on a reed cylinder is to slam the reeds shut. So what is the purpose on a PP cylinder? I'm guessing draw in more fuel air charge to the crank case on the downstroke since that's the only time those ports will be exposed to the intake and boost ports (the windows were way up near the piston crown).

I am currently running one of these cylinders in my boat, been for over 10 years. Back when I built it (around 1997 or so) I remember talking to Ken. He told me to just run factory 550 pistons, never mentioned anything about modifying them. I would sure like to know if windows would be beneficial too.
