what's the deal with Canyon Lake?

I've been hearing about some sort of "free secret riding spot" on "the backside" of Canyon Lake for jetski's. Whats the deal? Is there truth to the rumors? If so hows the water quality and how do I get there?

PWC's are not allowed. Invited or not.

Per the rules of the community, no PWC's are allowed. Why risk a ticket, you know...

Re: what's the deal with Canyon Lake?

Those rumors are true, although the riding area is not on Canyon Lake, but on the river channel that feeds the lake. Canyon Lake is a private community which does not allow any PWC usage on there lake, period. However on the north end of the lake there is a channel which is separated from the main lake by a dike. The area of the channel which is immediately north of the dike is considered Canyon Lakes slalom course but further up the channel there is a small section of the channel which governed by the BLM and Canyon Lake (to there dismay) has no jurisdiction there. You can “get away” with riding in the BLM section of the channel, mainly because there’s no one there to tell you otherwise. The riding area is approx 300 yrds long by about 100-150’ wide and when the water is high there is a river that runs through overgrown trees and bushes for about mile up stream (before it gets to shallow to ride. Its small but it’s a fairly cool area to ride. The water is always muddy brown but its not stagnet. There is no paved access and it can be difficult to find if someone who knows how to get there doesn’t show you the way. Google earth it to find it on your own and it’s a good idea to have a 4 wheel drive truck. Enjoy!
